Charles Dupré arrives in Strasbourg to take chemistry classes at the University. During a student dance, he meets Liliane and it is immediately the birth of a deep and pure love; the young people get engaged, but Liliane, for mysterious family reasons, gives up the marriage. Upset by this rupture, Charles is refused his exam and leaves Strasbourg for Paris...

A French filmstudent writes an autobiographical scenario. Despite the lack of understanding and the obstruction he gets from the filmbusiness, he managed to complete his movie. The movie win a prize at the Cannes film festival, but his disgust for the filmbusiness doesn't go away.
